Governing board evaluation

ERG Progress review

NGA external reviews of governance (ERG) usually result in a governance action plan based on the recommendations made in the review. Many boards find it helpful to factor in a formal check on the progress being made with this plan.

Our service
The progress review is usually undertaken by the consultant that carried out the external review. However, in some cases, this may not be possible or preferable, and this will be discussed when booking the progress review.

The progress review includes:

  • A review of the governance action plan and progress made
  • A review of board packs - agendas, minutes and other documents since the ERG
  • Conversations with the chair, senior executive leader and other key personnel
  • A short written report on progress made and any additional recommendations
  • A progress review should be booked within a year of the original external review of governance.

Our impact
The consultant provides a short report confirming the progress made and identifying the next steps. This provides:

  • Reassurance on progress made
  • A deadline for boards to work towards
  • Guidance on next steps to continue to improve your governance
