Every year, up and down the country, children and young people face challenges, demands or experiences that may compromise their safety and wellbeing both inside and outside the school gates.
These experiences often make children and young people more vulnerable to a whole host of negative outcomes that can impact on their capacity to enjoy, participate and achieve at school – deepening the educational disadvantage divide.
27% of young carers (aged 11–15) miss school or experience educational difficulties. This figure is 40% where children care for a relative with drug or alcohol problems.
