Executive leader performance management
Learn about the stages of headteacher/CEO performance management and how governing boards prepare for the annual appraisal meeting.
Governing boards conduct the performance management of the senior executive leader (headteacher or CEO) through a continuous cycle that includes an annual appraisal, where objectives are reviewed and set for the year ahead.
An effective performance management process ensures accountability while helping to support the wellbeing and meet the professional development needs of the executive leader.
We have developed two distinct guides, detailing headteacher performance management for governing bodies and CEO performance management for trust boards.
Both guides cover:
- the appraisal policy
- forming an appraisal panel
- appointing an external adviser
- the annual appraisal meeting
- setting objectives
- the appraisal report
- making a pay recommendation
- ongoing monitoring
