Equality, diversity and inclusion
NGA's position statement on equality, diversity and inclusion
NGA believe that every member of the school community has the right to live without fear or prejudice regardless of race, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, social class, religion and belief.
Governing boards have an important role in ensuring a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion in their schools and trusts. Through the decisions they make and the scrutiny and support they give, they can drive significant progress and impact for leaders, staff and pupils
There should be a commitment to training, awareness and action to remove systematic barriers that restrict and hinder those from under-represented groups from progressing and contributing to the school community in their own unique way.
It is important for governing boards and school leaders to consider how representative their board and workforce is of the school population and to be conscious of this in their recruitment and selection process.
NGA are also calling on the Government to lead on addressing inequalities in recruitment, retention and development, from the crucial first stage of entry into the profession to leadership. Â
