Governing boards, as the responsible body, have a duty to comply with The Equality Act 2010 which applies to all schools and trusts. The Act protects pupils and staff against discrimination, harassment, and/or victimisation based on nine protected characteristics.
Governing boards are responsible for ensuring the policies adopted by their school/trust, which inform practice and decision making, are both inclusive and meet the requirements of the Equality Act.
