Governor/trustee evaluation template
Use our template to support conversations about the governance role, development needs and future opportunities.
Governing boards should regularly evaluate their own effectiveness. This needs to happen at all levels, from the chair and individual governors/trustees to the whole board.
Evaluating individual governor/trustee contributions can be done informally with the chair – or vice chair – meeting with each board member on an annual basis. This is also an opportunity to thank colleagues for their time and effort.
The meeting may take place in person but could also be carried out via telephone or video conferencing.
The conversation might cover:
- understanding of the governance role
- training and development needs
- elements of the role that are working well and where there might be challenges
- opportunities to engage in different areas of the board's work
Use and adapt our template to support your conversations.
