Academy trust schemes of delegation
Use our guidance and model delegation matrix for multi academy trusts to construct and review this essential governance document
All multi academy trusts are required to have a scheme of delegation which details delegation of governance functions to the CEO, the trust board’s committees, and to academy committees (often known as local governing bodies).
The scheme of delegation should be as simple and systematic as possible so that everyone is clear about their responsibilities. You should review your trust's scheme annually and immediately where there is a change in trust management or organisational structure.
Our guidance sets out essential elements and provides examples to help your trust construct an effective scheme of delegation. A model delegation matrix is also available to download.
The guide covers:
- what to include in your scheme of delegation
- how to explain your trust governance structure
- key roles and responsibilities (members, trustees, execs, local governors)
