The governing board is responsible for setting the length of the school day, acting on the advice of their executive leader (headteacher or CEO) and ensuring that relevant legal requirements and expectations are met.

There is no specific process for changing the length of the school day. Our guide provides a framework that governing boards – and governance professionals advising boards – can use when considering proposed changes.
